so when is 5.1 due ..
The question quite often asked these days is - when is upstream going to release 5.1.0 ? I mean, the point releases *are* supposed to be quarterly updates, are they not ? And its been well longer than a quarter since 5.0.0 was released.
Anyway, going by the fact that rhn.redhat.com has been quite flaky and often reporting 'congestion' issues, I'd imagine something is cooking on that front today. And we might even see a release from upstream in the next few days.
One thing that everyone should keep in mind is that once its released upstream, were not going to get to work right away with the CentOS release - there are a few other things that need to be done first. The most important one of them is that RedHat have changed the way they report package build / package origin status within a tree - and we need to brainstorm this issue to see how if effects everyone who uses CentOS.
Another thing that needs addressing is how is the sub release ( the Z release ) going to be handled. We need to consider mirror servers storage requirements, buildsystem requirements, tracking and checking requirements from our side and also somehow be able to make it so that most uses get the most intuitive and secure upgrade path through the releases. Why is this harder for us ? We dont have the ability to inform and push feedback / situations to users via the rhn.redhat.com portal.
And there are other issues as well, but none of these are going to be really clear till such time as we see the upstream release. So make sure you are watching the mailing lists for activity and discussion on these issues - remember, we always appreciate all forms of feedback from everyone.
