OpenSUSE sux just as much as SUSE does
We all knew that SUSE linux sux. Lots of reason, buts their Anti-OpenSource policy was to blame much. Now take a look at this :
OpenSUSE is specifically prohibited from rebuilds and added into / modified into other products, details down this way { via http://www.sabi.co.uk/ )

Hi Karan !
you didn't hear from me for a long time because I've swithed to OpenSUSE on my personal laptop. It just works with no pain at all.
All is clear, functional, responsive ... and more up2date than CentOS. And for an home use I think it's a very handy feature.
On the opensuse mailing list one guy (an hardware vendor who personalize his machines with SUSE and other stuff) has pointed out this problem, and did contact Novell administrative guys ..... I remember that he could not say "Hey, I see you my BIG machine with SUSE" using suse like and "bonus add" and that he promised us some more info when he got one.
Maybe it's time to ask again what's happening ... seeing also the recent controversity going on (Gnome vs KDE on NLD and SLES) ...

kOoLiNuS, you are comparing the wrong things, OpenSuse competes with Fedora - and you will find FC5 is going to be a much better integrated distro than OpenSuse, and with Extras and Livna adding to the tree - OpenSUSE does not look to even start being a competition to Fedora.
CentOS competes with and compares with SLES. If you just look at the feedback and the support that CentOS gets from the community, that comparison is also kinda invalid.
And one of the major problems with SUSE is that its NOT open source friendly at all - all their distro's are locked into very properitery licenses. The offer almost nothing back to the community or users like Redhat / Fedora / CentOS do. And that is what my point was.

BTW Pascal Bleser has pointed me to this mail http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse/2005-Sep/1011.html (and to another two, I'll share them if you'd like) answering in my blog.
Let me also say that you know I am fond of CentOS, I would run my server with it without a pause, but I do not have a server. OpenSUSE could be compared to anything in a year ... now it resembles more Fedora Core 1, when we had very few available repos ....
the CentOS community is simply awesome, comparable to the Ubuntu one (and in my opinion the aspect why it grew so much in a year).
I was not saying anything bad about no-one .... I was simply sharing some thoughts (pardon my english... ) and feelings ...
Ciao !

Not yet used CentOs, having run with SUSE for years, I can tell you SUSE doesn't sucks, having run it on several server, some of them with quite heavy load. It works.
Just try to use it once unbiased.
And about the comparison, Redhat is far away from enterprise support than OES.

the issue is not so much about Technical issues - at the end of the day you run Linux, thats about it. Distro Loyalty is very subjective matter - and in most cases, not required even. The main issues I have with SuSE is that they have never been open source friendly - and with the recent change in directions with Novel, rather than being more open source friendly they have only clammed it up.
I have used SuSE many times over the last 7 years, and really have found nothing there to keep me interested - their agenda was always commercial ( nothing wrong with that, except I prefer to work with someone who is more open source friendly )
I am not sure what you meant by your last statement, but I have used support from both Redhat and SuSe, and I found the RH guys to be a lot more competient and responsive.
