Xen3 on CentOS4

First the link : http://www.karan.org/mock/Xen/

Now, thats the Xen3 setup pkgs for CentOS4/i386, with the lastest Glibc from CentOS4.2 built with the changes required for Xen to work properly. The Kernel version is NOT an EL kernel. its 2.6.12-xen3, which is a XenSource.Com supplied kernel.

There is actually a rpm-Metadata repo ( which would work with yum 2.2/ 2.4 and smartpm ), at http://www.karan.org/mock/Xen/i386/ that you can write a .repo file for ( in /etc/yum.repos.d/ ).

Couple of things :

1. Michael Best and Ignacio, are working on the Xen kernel rpms to see if we can get the Xen specific stuff ported into the CentOS 2.6.9- Kernel series ( so if you are someone at Xensource or know more info about this, please let one of us know !! )

2. There might be some dependances that you need to install from http://centos.karan.org/ - python-twisted is one of them.

3. The same kernel can be used to run Host and Guest, you dont need different kernels anymore.

4. If you dont know what Xen is, start reading here

5. if you get a conflict with : lksctp-tools, just remove that package with a rpm -e lksctp-tools

Enjoy,

While I stick around *coughing* my insides out. Yes, another winter, another round of my every-winter-throat-issues...

You _should_ read the info at http://bits.xensource.com/Xen/docs/xen3_rpm_install_notes.html

In most tests I've seen and based on personal experience I can assure you that on Linux, Xen does indeed give you a much better user experience. And speed wise, it seems better than vmware.

A little question off topic.... I believe you're running this server on Fedora. I'm sure you're running a Mail Server too. I just installed Fedora, I was wondering if you have a suggestion for me. I need to run a mail server. Fedora only has SMTP servere.

Hi, Karan, nice site.

I wonder if you know how can i run a kernel 2.4 as guest domain with xen3/kernel2.6.

Actually i've got a Centos 4.1 as Dom0, using rhel4.1 rpm xensource package and Openfiler (Centos 3.4) i've got running Centos 3.4/Openfiler with kernel 2.6 -from above package- but have some issues with lvm1 and kernel 2.6. So i want to enable a kernel 2.4 as xenU.

any ideas? (i hope i made myself clear...)

Thanks for your input
