Clarifications about CentOS
Joshua, in your post Redhat BOF at LCA 2006 you seem to be quite wrong about a few things w.r.t CentOS, Just thought I would post the corrections.
a) CentOS does not cost a thing. Its GPL'ed end to end, including the distro. Its built by the community and is available to download freely ( http://mirror.centos.org/mirrors ) - I would really like to find out where you came up with that number ( $50 ) from ?
b) Oracle for RHEL works on CentOS just fine. There are even people at Oracle who run CentOS. A google search for "oracle centos" turns up 350K results.
c) Apps built for RHEL work fine on CentOS - if there are any that dont, please point them out - someone will try and fix that situation ( centos-dev@centos.org is the best place to post such info )
d) CentOS supports more Architectures and a much larger package base than RHEL does. Lots of users who use RHEL, actually end up using CentOS repositories for these packages.
But all this of-course, is only possible since Redhat looks out for the community and makes this possible. And they get a lot back too. I'll leave that for a later post.
