So, I got someone a nice funky gizmo for his birthday. Even remembered to carry it with me when I went over for dinner with him, so he's quite excited and wants to try it out right away. Bits are assembled, power connected - and nothing happens. Turns out the gizmo is faulty. Not sure who was more embarrassed - him for having to return the gizmo to me, or me for having got him something that didn't work. Something he was actually quite excited about.
